All five seasons of “Better Things”, starring comedian/actor Pamela Adlon, are now available streaming on HBO and HBO Max. The series, which Adlon ended earlier this year, follows single mom, Sam Fox, a voice actor struggling to make ends meet in modern-day Los Angeles, as she navigates life with her eccentric British mother, who lives across the street, and her three daughters, Max, Frankie and Duke. Adlon’s Sam Fox charts her life with hard won stoicism, only occasionally losing her composure, only to regain it once again with the help of her female tribe, her gay brother and her occasional visits to a dispensary. A brilliant, soulful soundtrack enriches this complicated, nuanced, poignant story of what it means to be a woman living in today’s unpredictable world.
